How to Create A Dotted Border

Are you tired of using the same old, solid border for your assorted graphics? Well, tire no more. -puts on "pro-marketing" voice- Using dotted borders is a quick, uberfast, and simple way to spiff up your image.

The final results will look something like this :)

Open up a new image, any image you'd like. I used this image:

Now save the image below as dotted_pattern.gif. It's very tiny, but it's the main key to the entire project.

Open up the dotted_patten.gif and select the entire image with the Rectangular Marquee. Then go to Edit >> Define Pattern...

After you're done that, nothing big happens, so close the dotted_pattern.gif and turn back to the image you would like to have a dotted border around. Highlight the area you want to have as a dotted border. This is how I highlighted mine:

Please note that I highlight only about 1 width's pixel for my border. If your border is too heavy, it doesn't look too nice, so try and make the border as thin as possible! ^^

Now all you have to do is make a new layer and go to Edit >> Fill. A tiny box will pop up. Change your box so that it fits and matches the options of the one below. (PLEASE NOTE: The pattern choices of the drop-down will vary. All you need to do in this case is ignore all of the patterns and choose the last pattern you see, which is the one you saved earlier; "dotted_pattern.gif"

Press Enter on your keyboard or select "OK," and your border will be dotted black. If you want this to change, then simply go to Layer >> Layer Styles >> Color Overlay, which is where you can change the colour of the border to anything you like. Be creative. If you want your dotted border to be more than one colour, then create your own gradient and select Gradient Overlay instead of Color Overlay. Fiddle around with the colours until you find something to your liking. After you're done the border, you can add as manythings to your images as you like. :)

Here are the final results...be proud of yourself, you managed to complete the tutorial! XD
